This is a very short blog post as there is no deep knowledge sharing here 🙂 However, it's not common knowledge, and enabling Intelligent-Tiering in S3 can save you a lot on storage costs so I decided to write it.
Q: So how do I enable Nuxeo to work with the Intelligent-Tiering class in S3? A: You just switch to Intelligent-Tiering and it works-no configuration needed in Nuxeo.
What's not supported by Nuxeo are Intelligent-Tiering Archive Access and Deep Archive Access tiers. You could use the Cold Storage add-on for Glacier tiers. However, I have used this add-on a lot and I would advise against it (you'll face many issues at volume in a production system + Hyland has announced support for Archive Intelligent tiers in 2026).
So how do you set up Intelligent-Tiering?
- Nuxeo side: you don't need to do anything.
- AWS side: go to your bucket → Management and configure a Lifecycle rule to transition objects from Standard to Intelligent-Tiering after 1 day (or whatever you need). Just see the screenshot in the picture.
Let me know if you enable it!
